Must see: HOME’s Manchester Open exhibition featuring work from hundreds of North West artists

Manchester’s leading cinema, theatre and arts centre HOME asked the creative people of Manchester to submit their best work to a brand new group exhibition to be housed in their ground-floor gallery space – and they answered in droves. Everybody and anybody was free to contribute to the Manchester Open exhibition, from seasoned and established makers and art practitioners, to people who would not normally call themselves artists. As you might expect, the venue received thousands of submissions which were then whittled down by HOME’s visual arts team, led by Senior Curator Bren O’Callaghan, and a panel of community representatives, to be featured in the very same space that recently housed the first major UK solo show from world renowned Director and Visual Artist David Lynch. Visit HOME’s main gallery space and you’ll find many different kinds of artworks created by over 500 Greater Manchester residents. Among the many gems currently on display are hypnotic pattern work by local artist and illustrator Paul Hallows AKA HimHallows, haunting acrylics by painter Philip Wroe and social commentary sculpture by Kat Preston to name just a few. However this is just the tip of the iceberg. Following a preview evening that saw a record numbers of visitors flock to the venue and queue around First Street just to get a glimpse of the work on show, the Manchester Open will stay open to the public until Sunday 29 March 2020.
