Manchester is getting a brand new bike hire scheme – featuring motorised e-bikes – which is due to be rolled out in spring 2021. The move follows an undeniably disastrous Mobike service which appeared and then disappeared back in 2018 and saw Manchester become the first city in the world to have the Chinese bike share company behind the scheme revoke its cycle privileges due to excessive bike theft and vandalism. Approximately 1,500 hire bikes will become available via this £10million project that aims to roll out across Manchester, Salford and Trafford early next year. Sure to be a hit with students, this newly devised transport-hire option will boast a number of e-bikes which come complete with a battery and electric motor for ease of riding. In addition, all bikes will be docked in order to improve their safety.
