Society, a new £1m street food and drink market created by developer PopCity and Hebden Bridge’s Vocation Brewery will officially opening the doors of its new home on Barbirolli Square on Wednesday 19 May 2021.

Located in the empty Pitcher & Piano unit next to the Bridgewater Hall, Society will boast a number of local food and drink traders, including a brand new pizza pop-up from Ancoats favourite Elnecot. Their new venture – Dokes Pizzeria – is a stone-baked pizza concept that will take up one of five independent kitchen spaces in this long-dormant venue with a capacity to house 350 visitors.

Other independent food vendors already confirmed to feature at Society include Slap & Pickle diner serving a menu of burgers, vegan burgers and loaded fries; pan-Asian specialists Manzoku Street Food and cool Korean food concept called Yoki – and Vocation will of course have a bar dedicated to their popular craft beers. Society hopes to provide independent businesses with an affordable space to trade and attract new customers, and give customers the opportunity to enjoy a diverse selection of food and drink from local vendors. The venue will be open from 10am each day and has already teased plans for live music and entertainment, DJs and regular chef takeovers.

The success of PopCity’s first street food venture – Assembly Underground in Leeds – makes these plans for a new food and drink space in Manchester all the more exciting, and the projected designs for the unit include a mezzanine, cocktail bars, and an outdoor patio, as well as an indoor lounge area, giving a taste of what promises to be a vibrant addition to the city centre.
