Having closed its doors back in March when the UK went into lockdown, Manchester city centre art space Paper Gallery has finally announced its reopening dates, complete with two new exhibitions to explore when it returns. For their first exhibition amid the ‘new normal’, Hubei-born and London-based artist Ruofan Chen presents a series of drawings detailing the importance of human emotions in a rapidly developing and changing society in Property of Neutral. As her debut solo exhibition, Chen’s work explores themes of memory and fleeting emotions, whilst touching upon a sense of alienation and longing for her family back in China.

Available to view from Saturday 12 September to Saturday 24 October, Chen’s work will be joined by a second exhibition from Salford artist Foday Kabba. Where Do We Go From Here? presents a series of ink drawing portraits with a difference, as the head of each subject is made up of various construction materials like scaffolding. Kabba’s work has an emphasis on identity and the ways in which we construct our outward appearance to the world. Both exhibitions are free to view – with added social distancing measures in place to ensure customer safety. To find out more, visit the Paper Gallery website.
