All the way back in late July, the Frog and Bucket held the first live comedy night for four months. All socially distanced and government approved, the night was a huge success with Kiri Pritchard-McLean on hosting duties. And then, there was a spike in Corona cases and the purported August 1 restart of comedy was shelved for the foreseeable. That is, until this month and the welcome return of the Frog and its array of comedic talent. We’ve rounded up five must-see shows coming to the Oldham Street venue over the next couple of months. Get your laughing gear ready…
Nobody wants to celebrate comedy coming back to the clubs more than comedians themselves, and seemingly Geordie funnyman Carl Hutchinson is so excited he’s doing a whole show about how he gets to do what he loves again. An infectious presence (not like that!) on stage, you’ll no doubt be very glad of comedy’s – and Carl’s – triumphant return.
As mentioned in her interview with us back in May, stand-up comedian Rachel Fairburn was due to start her first full UK tour when the lockdown hit, so it’s especially great to see her back at the Frog (read the full interview here). Here, she joins Dan Nightingale, Mandy Knight and Daisy Earl for a proper Saturday night out at the Frog. Make sure you book in advance as this will sell out!
The follow up to Conway’s global smash hit show Walk of Shame, the multi-award winning comedian is back with another show that laughs in the face of the phrase ‘too much information’. In You May Recognise Me From Tinder she tackles modern dating and a foray into sex work. Frank, honest and hilarious, Conway is a tour-de-force who’s shows must be seen live.
It seems the majority of the country could use a lesson in Black History, and with October being the month devoted to it you can learn and laugh at the Frog’s Comedy of Black Origin night on the October 18.
