The Pankhurst Centre has revealed details of its summer 2021 reopening, with the venue returning with public viewings of a brand new permanent exhibition entitled At Home With The Pankhurst Family from Sunday 29 August. The birthplace of the suffragette movement will reemerge following an incredibly difficult year with a new twist on the visitor experience in the venue’s ongoing goal to restore and conserve this iconic Northern building.
At Home With The Pankhurst Family aims to invigorate and inspire a new generation of change makers by inviting viewers to explore the story of the revolutionary radicals who once lived at 62 Nelson Street, and the long-standing legacy they left behind. This new year-round exhibition will showcase the lives and work of Emmeline, Christabel, Sylvia, Adela and Harry Pankhurst and tell their story in the very building that helped usher in votes for women and heard Emmeline’s powerful declaration of “Deeds, not words”.
Meanwhile, a second room entitled Rooms of Our Own: The Herstory of the Pankhurst Centre will chronicle the past of the centre itself, connecting the dots to the young people of today by highlighting key elements of the space’s archive which contains key items from radical women’s history.
