It’s clear that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on events this year – particularly within the music industry. Lockdowns and restrictions have led to the cancellation and postponements of stuff we were really looking forward to – but one yearly event managed to adapt and overcome. This year, Record Store Day was split into three separate ‘drop-dates’ across August, September and October – with lists of rare and exclusive records available on each date – and it’s been a great success.
In the past few months at Manchester Wire, we’ve put together lists of our top releases from local acts, best LPs plus creepy vinyl to get your hands on. But before we wave goodbye to 2020, there’s one more drop for music lovers. Record Store Day Black Friday takes place on Friday 27 November. It will be an online-only event with releases available to purchase from 6pm on the day. Below we’ve listed our top 3 cool ‘n’ colourful vinyl choices to try grab if you can…
1. Jarvis Cocker – Jarvis LP
A limited run of the debut solo album by Pulp vocalist and musician Jarvis Cocker. Originally released in the UK in November 2006, this has been out of print for some time. Pressed on split colour green vinyl, including etched 7” of C**ts Are Still Running The World.
2. Milla Jovovich – The Divine Comedy LP
Fashion model and actress Milla Jovovich uses her own poetry and instrumental accompaniment with native Ukrainian folk themes in her debut studio album, The Divine Comedy. This release is a limited creamsicle orange vinyl edition.
3. The Bangles – Doll Revolution 2-LP
Hailed as one of the greatest all-girl bands in rock history, The Bangles’ iconic album Doll Revolution hits vinyl for the first time this year. A streaked-pink pressing limited to 1500 hand-numbered copies, the 2-LP set is presented in a gatefold packaging with insert.
