On the Sunday before the upcoming Bank Holiday you’d be forgiven for wanting to stay the hell away from the Northern Quarter. What once were quaint little street parties have quickly turned into gigantic boozeathons stretching all the way down to Shudehill. But it’s not all bad as Nexus remind us what people actually like the ol’ hipster paradise for; the historic buildings and artistic expression. Grab one of Glittermouse’s (who are running the event) ‘place-making’ boards and hop on the art crawl around the streets using the transparent acrylic boards as a frame for viewing chosen locations and then writing or drawing on them as if the marks were being made directly onto the landscape. The workshop facilitator will take photographs of these interventions during the session which will then be displayed in an online gallery and possibly even physically at the café at a later date.

Sun 5 May, Nexus Art Café, Dale Street, M1 1JW. Tel: 0161 236 0100. 3pm-5pm, £4 (inc coffee and cake), www.facebook.com. Email bookings@nexusartcafe.com to get involved, with ‘Sketchcrawl’ as the email subject.
