Although Bank Holiday weekend has most definitely rinsed us all, isn’t it glorious to see the streets so full of life? The weather has been tropical, sure, but there’s no way so much energy could be created without the amazing staff behind the bars and shutters. Manchester hospitality really is the gift that keeps on giving. Speaking of, here’s the best food and drink on offer in our brilliant boroughs over the next few weeks…

Sweet treats and dog-friendly ‘Pupcakes’ from Biscuit and Brew

The only thing better than stuffing your face with cake is stuffing your face with cake in a place where your pooch can tuck in too. Biscuit and Brew offers just that, in their brand-spankling new hut at Hatch.

After a stellar year of selling out online, Biscuit and Brew finally opened their first spot at Hatch in May, serving up some divine goodies such as red velvet brownies, Jammy Dodger milkshakes, and peanut butter cupcakes made specially for pups!

Find the perfect pit-stop pint at Can It

As refreshing as it is having hospitality back open, this queuing-for-a-table business is leaving a stale taste in our mouth. So why not skip the hour-long queues and make a pit-stop at Can It – Arndale Market’s answer to craft ales.

Can It have transformed their tiny space into a hoppy haven, with a ridiculously huge collection of IPAs, lagers, local brews and even flavoured moonshine – making this perfect stop to pick up your tinnies for the park. They have some tasty beer on draft too, served at perhaps the tiniest micro-bar in the city. Well worth the trip just to look at all the pretty cans…

Open noon to 6pm, Monday to Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sundays.

Build-your-own ice cream sandwiches at Scoop

Possibly the best thing to come from ice cream since Mr Whippy, ice cream sandwiches are the perfect cool-down treat for walking around the city – and Scoop does it like no other. Sold DIY style, customers can choose from cookies, brownies and donuts for their sweet sandwich base, filled with their personal choice of ice cream, sauce and two toppings.

Even better, Scoop have managed to encompass all the nation’s favourite flavours into one menu, including mint choc chip, cherry ripple, chocolate orange and salted caramel. And it only gets tastier when you add the toppings – dried raspberries, honeycomb pieces, meringue kisses and white chocolate sauce. Sounds divine, doesn’t it?

Opening their first brick and mortar store in Ancoats later this month, Scoop is where you want to be when the sun starts creeping in.

Rainbow vegan burgers at Panc Foods

For the plant-based eaters: Panc Foods is the place to be for some sensational vegan scran. Based in the suburban town of Gatley, Panc offer vegan junk food with a colourful twist– from garlic chick’n fries and giant hotdogs, to biscoff milkshakes and loaded churros.

The star of the show, however, are their burgers. These absolute beasts will somehow manage to make you crave fluorescent food in a way that you never thought possible. With burger buns flavoured (and coloured) with ingredients like spinach and blueberries, and fillings such as vegan bacon and plant-based chorizo, these are the kind of burgers you’d be willing to travel for.

Homemade dumplings and authentic Japanese curries at Grub’s East Asian Food Fest | 11 - 13 Jun

The must-go food event of the fortnight is, of course, Grub’s East Asian Food Festival – and the line-up is MEGA. At the top of the list, and winners of the 2020 Best Manchester Street Food award, is Oh Mei – who will be serving up some of the most perfectly crafted (and beautifully coloured) fresh vegan dumplings.

If dough isn’t really your thing, check out Rainy City Ramen – another Manchester favourite. Rainy City were the first plant-based ramen pop-up in the UK, and their noodles are still miles ahead everyone else. Keep your eyes peeled for their Tantanmen – soy soboro mince, slow-roasted toms, charred sweetcorn, pickled chilli and spring onion, served in a soy and sunflower broth. Dreamy.

It starts this Friday from noon – and it’s free to get in too.
