The theme of Manchester Pride Festival 2021 has finally been announced. ‘Garden of Freedom’ will take place on the Bank Holiday weekend from Friday 27 to Monday 30 August as the charity looks towards bringing the LGBTQ+ community and its allies back together after a long period of isolation with live music, parties and of course, the iconic Pride Parade.
The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have been especially hard for the mental health of the LGBTQ+ youth community. In 2020, the festival took place virtually – however for its 36th annual event, the charity is committed to following COVID restrictions and social distancing to continue providing a safe space to both celebrate and remember freedom and the fight for equality.
The Parade will take place on Saturday 28 August – beginning on Liverpool Road and finishing on Whitworth Street – and the famous Gay Village Party will extend throughout the whole weekend, with artists like Annie Mac, Example and Zara Larsson already confirmed to appear. The charity’s work will not stop when the festival ends either, as plans have been announced for a number of listening groups and workshops to take place throughout the year.
All the money made by Manchester Pride goes back into the community, and their continuing fight for equality. Tickets are available now via the Manchester Pride website, with limited discounted ticket available for those on a low income.
