Manchester’s Kantos Chamber Choir perform a special concert this Saturday 10 July from 7:30pm at the city’s cathedral. ‘A Human Requiem’ pairs Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem with Berlin-based composer Rory Wainwright Johnston’s A glimpse of the Light.

Formed by conductor Ellie Slorach in 2015 – Kantos is one of North West’s top professional choirs, having been highly commended in the 2020 Classical Music Digital Awards and providing the choir for Gary Numan’s shows at the Royal Albert Hall. After taking to the digital realm during lockdown (including last summer’s In The Field installation), this event will see the choir perform in-person with a live audience for the first time since February 2020.

Performed in the beautiful acoustic setting of Manchester Cathedral, the programme invites us to reflect on the past year, remembering the losses of the coronavirus pandemic, but also looking forward to the future. With his piece A glimpse of the Light getting its Manchester premiere, Rory explained: “…it paints a picture of the humanity, nature, and  ideas of afterlife in a secular and sacred way in much the same manner as the German Requiem.  Kantos are a fantastic choir and I can’t wait to see how they bring it to life.”

Tickets are available now priced at £18, with £15 for concessions and just £5 for Under 25s. Find out more info on the event and book tickets in the link below.
