Preparations for the opening weekend and ongoing events at The Vale arts centre – a former textile mill converted to a state-of-the-art venue – are continuing apace, with only a couple of weeks to go until proceedings get started from Friday 10 Sep onwards.
Tickets for Mr Wilson’s Second Liners performing on the very first night, have already sold out (although as they are long-time friends of The Vale and Global Grooves, we suspect they’ll be back in some capacity before too long). But carrying our launch part on throughout the weekend, on the following night we bring you the sassy grooves of Honeyfeet (pictured here). Honeyfeet have that after-hours kind of sound, a band teetering on the edge. In the audience, you never quite know what’s about to happen – and that’s exactly what we want to cultivate at The Vale: unmissable performances that won’t happen in the same place, in the same way, ever again. Tickets are still available for this event, but we recommend that you get your skates on to snap them up. Please note that this is a 16s and over only event. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult 18+.
Fast forward to Friday 25 Sep and the venue welcomes Sefo Kanuteh: a virtuosic, soulful and authentic Kora and Balafon player from The Gambia. Having worked closely on major projects with artists such as Baaba Maal and The BKO Quintet, his drive to recreate the warmth of his home community in the UK is shown through his inspiring audience engagement during performances, as well as his various workshops throughout Europe. Sefo makes all of his instruments himself and travels around the world to introduce his culture. Now, more than ever, he feels it is important to learn how to come together, support each other and to slow down, rather than retreating and letting fear define our actions. Book now to avoid disappointment.
