Following a £1million overhaul, Mossley’s multi-purpose arts and carnival centre The Vale reaffirms itself as a community cornerstone from September 10 as the refurbished Peak District textile mill reopens its doors with an action-packed calendar.

The Vale Launch Weekend lets people in for a first poke around from 4pm on Friday September 10, and while the opening night gig from Mr Wilson’s Second Liners is sadly sold out, there’s still a plethora of events to choose from – including these:

September 10-12 | Many events free and family-friendly | www.the-vale.co.uk

Grand Opening / Electro-acoustic Showcase | Main venue | Sat Sep 11 | 12:30pm-4pm | Free

This official launch party is a super packed hour of raucous carnival-style celebration, and it’s doubly worth getting down to because it’s swiftly followed by The Vale’s big free music event of the weekend – the family friendly Electro-acoustic Showcase, which brings together great players from folk, indie and even Mambo.

Cotton Culture | Outdoors | Sat Sep 11 | 3pm-3:30pm | Free

An external exhibition around the periphery of The Vale, this short art stroll with the artists behind the work looks at the area’s heritage in cotton and cloth and the global connections that continues to create.

Community Make | Studio 1 | Sun Sep 12 | 11am-3pm | Free

An opportunity for a bit of collective art therapy, Community Make invites visitors to work with artists on creating a unique piece for the new venue – a little chance to leave your mark on Mossley.

Vale Sounds Collective Venue Takeover | Main venue | Sun Sep 12 | 1pm-4pm | Free

If new sounds are what gets your pulse racing, then this showcase of emerging talent from across Greater Manchester should go straight into your calendar. Valetones return to head up the schedule, with support from many soon to be well known names.
