This Thursday: First live performance of Libersea’s debut EP at SOUP Manchester

Caitlin Laing-McEvoy (Manchester, UK) and Ditte Elly Goard (Aarhus, Denmark) began collaborating online in December 2020. Now, they’re preparing for their first ever live performance together on 30 Sep at SOUP, the multi-award-winning music venue and bar in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
Despite being created in a time when both artists were forced to work remotely, Libersea’s debut EP, ‘Can You Hear Me?’, explores themes of connection, joy and collaboration.

Caitlin Laing-McEvoy is a songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist (piano, flute, saxophone, guitar) who is about to release her first tracks as a solo artist. She has previously created music with alternative duo Oystercatcher and afro-punk 11-piece Agbeko.
Ditte Elly Goard is a British-Danish musician and visual artist who works across multiple genres – folk, choral, electronic and pop. Since 2017, Ditte has performed and released music under the name ‘Musikeum’ – each album released is a musical documentation of a specific story, collected as a kind of ‘museum archive’.

This new international collaboration brings together folk and classical influences with electronic sounds to create a vast and eclectic sound world that explores the manifold benefits and consequences of our digital world. Caitlin and Ditte will be joined on the night by alt-pop artist Paige Kennedy and DJ Ellen Beth Abdi.

The event is a co-commission with Library Live, Manchester as part of Brighter Sound’s gender equality programme Both Sides Now. Brighter Sound is a Manchester-based creative music charity that supports young and emerging musicians, with a particular focus on working with those from underrepresented and marginalised groups.  Both Sides Now is an initiative that supports women and people from marginalised genders through artistic development, education resources and a programme of leadership development for industry professionals.
