This Friday: Immersive WARP arts exhibition takes over Islington Mill

No plans to kick off the weekend yet? Not to worry. Head over to one of Salford’s coolest spots, Islington Mill, for the WARP exhibition, an evening of art, community and creativity.

Proudly brought to you by Short Supply Manchester, a collective all about providing opportunities for artist-led antics up North, their latest exhibition showcases the work of the WEFT Residency artists at Unit 2 in Islington Mill from earlier this year.

WEFT Residency is a four-day long reunion of artists coming together in a single physical space posing the important questions: how do we, as artists, work together? Have we forgotten what it’s like to be in a room navigating challenges of space? what does it mean to work horizontally? And so on.

Throughout the residency, the group began to work and create together. In being on hand to share ideas, skills and tools around exhibition planning, curation, installation and audience engagement, the four-strong team of Louis Lisle, Sarah Godfrey, Megan Arnold and Jacob Bullen got to know each other, made some art, played with curation, chatted about audience engagement and shared a meal or two.

For the WARP Exhibition, the four artists will be reflecting on these ideas together again for a four-day stint at Islington Mill. However, this time they will be presenting work from the residency artists for the public to come and have a nosy at. The work for this show comes from across the country and across the world, and the exhibition itself will be live-streamed so, for a portion of the showing, you can watch from afar and get a little insight into the process of the show set up and delivery.

To top it all off, a live screening of Proforma’s newest project, Desire Lines, will be played during the exhibition, so you have even more of a reason to explore such a vital and important creative space in Manchester.
