With winter just around the corner, an evening of Scandivian-inspired orchestra is set to arrive at the Hallé Orchestra’s home of the Bridgewater Hall.
A wonderfully appropriate programme for the colder months, the performance will feature two of Norwegian Edvard Grieg’s most famous pieces—his musical tableaux for Peer Gynt and his seminal Piano Concerto complete with its stunning central Adagio, which will be performed by BBC New Generation Artist and Terence Judd-Hallé Award-winning pianist, Elisabeth Brauß
Film composer and vocalist Christine Hals, who you may recognise from her Scandinavian herding call in Disney’s Frozen, brings the unique sound to her Calling the Aurora.
Hugo Alfvén will also be on-hand to deliver his light-hearted Midsummer Vigil, a symphonic rhapsody that has been inspired by the heart of his homeland’s folk music, whilst Sibelius will contribute via his haunting and melancholy Valse triste and his stirring tribute to his beloved Finlandia.
Arriving in town on Thu 2 Dec, the show will run for approximately two hours including intervals, and gets underway from 7.30pm.
Students from the RNCM will also be performing a selection of Scandinavian repertoire from 6.30pm, a performance which is free to concert ticket holders.
