‘Twas the week before Christmas and everyone was in serious need of a good laugh. While Boris flits between messages with zero support, the Manchester comedy scene gives you a chance to enjoy yourself with some live stand-up from the likes of Nick Doody, Jain Edwards and Kyle Legacy’s evening of ‘Lay Down Comedy’.

Nick Doody at XS Malarkey | Tue 14 Dec | 7.30pm | £6/3

Comedian, writer and one time support act for Bill Hicks(!), Nick Doody takes to the XS Malarkey stage this week with a fantastic lineup that also includes rising stars Priya Hall and Sophie McKay. XS always mixes the old guard with the young upstarts and rarely gets its picks wrong. Go support a true Manchester institution.

The Jain Edwards Show: Christmas Special | Thu 16 Dec | 8pm | £8/10

Chat shows at Christmas are always a bit of a star-studded affair and Jain Edwards alternative version is no different as they claim to have bagged Father Christmas himself and also an appearance from star of stage and screen Amy Gledhill. Only the third show for Jain and her cohorts, this is fast becoming the must-see comedy event of the month.

Lay Down Comedy | Sun 19 Dec | 7pm | FREE

A comedy night that sounds like exactly the kind of thing we could all use right now, a good lie down. Presumably the opposite of ‘stand-up’, Lay Down Comedy has its second outing and welcomes Molly McGuinness, Tegan Marlow, Kyle Legacy and more for a night of ‘inclusive, international, incandescent entertainment’. Sounds good to us. We’ll bring a pillow.
