Manchester curry hotspot Zouk will be offering guests the chance to push their tastebuds to the limit this Thu 24 Feb, with a special one-off menu addition marking National Chilli Day.
The fiery dish will feature the infamous Carolina Reaper, which is the world’s hottest curry according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Taking the restaurant’s much-loved Chicken Karahi, the chefs have transformed the traditional recipe by adding three different types of Reaper: fresh chillies, dried chillies and chilli paste.
For anyone who fancies themselves as a spice connoisseur, you’ll be rewarded if you can finish the whole dish in one sitting. Successful diners won’t just get the curry on the house, you’ll be able to cool off with an ice cream sundae afterwards. Along with that, you’ll win a free Zouk Sunday Roast Sharing Platter for two that can be claimed within six months of completing the challenge.
At this point, it’s probably worth noting that you do need to sign a disclaimer before taking part, which gives you at least some idea of the heat we’re talking here.
Zouk owner Tayub Amjad added to that warning, saying: “The chillies are so hot the chefs have to be careful handling them. You can feel them on your hands and also stinging your eyes. The heat really is intense. This year we’ve made the karahi even hotter by adding dried and fresh chillies as well as chilli paste. This means a triple hit of heat. I don’t think there are many people who can easily finish it.”
