A diverse and delightful programme of music is the Hallé’s promise for 2022/23—its first full season in three years following the pandemic, and one that showcases music created by both much loved and brand new composers from right across the globe.
Sir Mark Elder brings in the latest season with Strauss and Rachmaninov, and in the weeks ahead the orchestra will perform more than 60 concerts that revisit the greatest works of everyone from Verdi and Elgar to Abba and ET.
Visiting performers include Grammy winner Nicola Benedetti, BRIT Award-winning cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, and Argentinian pianist Nelson Goerner, while Tabita Berglund and Daniele Rustioni are among this season’s guest conductors. Premiered works in the months ahead come from Russian legend Sofia Gubaidulina, acclaimed British pianist Huw Watkins, and soon to be Chief Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Ryan Wigglesworth, while lauded British-Bulgarian composer Dobrinka Tabakova is Artist in Residence.
The success of the 2021/22 Hallé Chamber series, over at sister venue Hallé St Peter’s, means its welcome return in 2022/23 with eight shows and a string of special guests planned to appear. And next March, The Bridgewater Hall gets to host the thrilling final of the prestigious Siemens-Hallé International Conductors Competition.
