In a celebration of music’s singular ability to transcend all borders, a group of young and exceptionally gifted instrumentalists from various conservatoires around the world are joining students of the Royal Northern College of Music to perform as the 21C Global Orchestra.
Promising to ‘explore the potential of what an orchestra can be in the 2020s,’ the collective takes the RNCM Concert Hall stage on Fri 8 Jul in a rousing, genre-bending evening of international creativity.
Following three days of workshops, the performance uses the two-year alienation wrought by the pandemic as a freshly-fuelled engine of giddy, pioneering creative collaboration between musicians from the RNCM, the Norwegian Academy of Music, Sydney Conservatorium, Boston’s New England Conservatory and beyond.
In place of a traditional orchestral format, guests can expect singing and improvisation throughout pieces which feature ‘flexible instrumentation’. Priced with a flat fee of just £5, visitors will experience the vanguard of contemporary classical music at its challenging and inquisitive, before each member finds inevitable stardom.
Fri 8 Jul, 7.30pm, RCNM Concert Hall , 124 Oxford Rd, Manchester M13 9RD, Tel: 0161 907 5200, £5
