Creating The Illusion: Animation in the North West at MOSI

With news that the Museum of Science and Industry could be forced to close its doors – and a major petition already underway to save it – now is a better time than ever to show support for museum’s homage to the city’s industrial heritage. This month sees the venue launch a respective nod to Manchester and the North West’s forefront role in animation; from Edwardian magic lantern slides to today’s stop motion and CGI techniques. Exploring the development and impact of the prominent Cosgrove Hall Films, this exhibition, which launches on Sunday, offers the chance to learn about major personalities in the process, see rare puppets from childhood favourites (think Danger Mouse and Chorlton and the Wheelies, pictured) and even try your hand at creating your own animated image.
