There is a paucity of geniuses in the world, but an excess of people who want to shove their talent in your faces, regardless of how little of it they have. Perhaps that’s what is most exciting about Ruby Tingle’s EP launch at Art of Tea – the sight of an amazing talented artist (in many senses of the word – her collage work is something to behold, as well the music) being coaxed out for an all-too-rare live performance for the as yet unreleased four-track. Debut release Four Demons was a sleeper hit on the blogs, most often – and most accurately – getting compared to some of the weirder Kate Bush album tracks, the tender production teaming with bizarre wordplay and an enchanting caterwaul. Part of Didsbury Arts Festival, her only other live date penned in is a jaunt to Sheffield for Tramlines, and if the last couple of months are anything to go by, it’s unlikely you’ll see Tingle about until the next EP.
