A new exhibition coming to The Whitworth celebrates Manchester’s vibrant history, culture and community, and will also raise money for Maggie’s Manchester, who support people living with cancer.
The collection of ten paintings showcases the city’s shifting skyline, with the iconic worker bee as the main focal point throughout.
The exhibition will encapsulate the spirit of Manchester, as well as highlight the importance of art in the healing process. The paintings will subsequently be sold or auctioned following the exhibition with all proceeds from the sale going to Maggie’s Manchester.
Each work of art is original, and no prints will be available except for Bee There which captures the essence and beauty of the Maggie’s Centre. This piece will not be auctioned and instead have pride of place in the centre itself.
Speaking about the exhibition, Margo Cornish, Maggie’s board member said: “Maggie’s and the Whitworth have a long-standing relationship, for many years working together with a shared understanding of the importance of art and environment in how we care for people. As an institution founded to promote good health and social wellbeing, we are extremely honoured to be able to collaborate with Maggie’s on this project to raise funds for such a vital cause.”
