For some people, the idea of getting on a bike is one largely filled with anxious thoughts, fretting about falling off, about people laughing, about someone you know seeing you and taking a picture and everyone on Facebook laughing. But other people – other people love it, which is why the Great Manchester Cycle is one of the most cherished events on the calendar for thousands from across the region. The course runs from the Etihad, down Mancunian Way, through to Old Trafford, up to Media City and back again – an enjoyable scenic romp through the urban streets for all involved, as long as none of it gets uploaded to facebook.

Sun 30 Jun, Starts at Etihad Stadium, M11 3FF (see website for full course), 8am (52 miles), 11.40am (26 miles), 1.45pm (13 miles), Sold out, www.greatcycle.org
