For four days, the International Anthony Burgess Foundation will host a special viewing of the free exhibition Anthony Burgess’s Typewriters.
The iconic Manchester author wrote a total of 33 novels, along with an array of non-fiction titles throughout his lifetime. A number of the typewriters used by Burgess are now held in the archive at the Burgess Foundation in Manchester
Anthony Burgess’s Typewriters contains multiple vintage Olivettis, Olympias and Hermes typewriters on display, some used to destruction by Burgess in the creation of his novels and articles.
The exhibition also explores some of his writing about the machine that was ubiquitous during his life, including a previously unpublished article by Burgess, Myself as a Chunk of Software, in which he grapples with the new technology of word processors.
Visitors can even try their own hand at typing on a 1977 Olivetti Lettera 25.
Admission is free, and the exhibition will run from Thu 8 Dec – Sun 11 Dec, between 12pm-4pm.
