From traditional dram-paired set menus in historically significant pubs to relaxed comedy and conversation in a local library, Manchester’s Burns Night schedule offers several evening events during which you can honour the globally adored verse of Scotland’s national poet with all of the mirth and none of the melancholy.
Featuring a welcome drink courtesy of Edinburgh Gin, haggis, neeps and tatties, five select drams of whisky and ‘a few extras’, The Britons Protection holds the quintessential Burns Night celebration amidst open fireplaces and ornate interior features in one of Manchester’s most famous pubs.
Promising to ‘wine and dine guests through an evening of all things Scottish’, Manchester Craft and Design Centre’s first ever supper club features a welcome snack and cocktail followed by three courses with three paired wines in a relaxed atmosphere.
Once the haunt of L.S. Lowry, Manchester’s 154-year-old culinary cornerstone sharpens its focus on hearty, traditional British food to create a sumptuous Scottish Burns Night menu featuring Loch Fyne oysters, pan-fried venison, customary haggis and more alongside an optional Speyside whisky pairing.
Celebrating with a menu full of locally sourced produce, Open Kitchen at the multi-award-winning People’s History Museum offers a cheerily fresh take on Burns Night, with local singer-songwriter Sophie-Mia performing a live jazz and soul set both upon arrival and towards the end of the meal.
Vegan alternatives are available, and every £5 per ticket sold goes towards the work of Only a Pavement Away, which supports the homeless into stable life through employment.
Billed as a night of ‘words, music, performance, comedy and community’, Levenshulme Old Library’s Blether Burns Night celebration offers an intimate, eclectic alternative to the city centre festivities.
