Grammy Award-winning jazz trumpeter Philip Lassiter brings irresistible funk to The Stoller Hall

Blending timely socio-political messaging with ‘humorous, earthy storytelling and some forays into old school funk’, eight-time Grammy Award-winning multi-instrumentalist, jazz trumpeter and composer Philip Lassiter brings a selection of incendiary grooves and soul-stirring vocals to The Stoller Hall on Sun 19 Mar.

Described by jazz organist and fellow Grammy Award winner Bobby Sparks as ‘the best horn arranger of all time’, Lassiter – a former member of Prince and the New Power Generation – arrives in Manchester with his latest musical project, Live in Love, a ‘triumph of deep groove’ which explores ‘a rainbow of colours within the funk’.

Held together by Lassiter’s playful narrative grasp, the record features boisterous, grandiose horns, detours into one-drop reggae and even a heady, lilting love song, alongside rousing vocal performances by the likes of Latin music titan Juan Luis Guerra, Jonathan Hoard, Mariah Meshae, Charles Jones and more.
