Top 3: Didsbury Arts Festival events

Quite the cultured place anyway, Didsbury doesn’t particularly need an arts festival – but thank god it has one. Running from 22 Jun through to the 30 Jun, it promises all sorts of weird stuff for all ages groups. Here’s our pick of three of the choicest events from the programme

Janet Griffiths: Home is where the art is
Part of the Fringe events running alongside the festival, local artist Janet Griffiths will be turning her own home into an art space, inviting friends and contemporaries to stage interventions, exhibitions, screenings and performances inside and outside of her abode.

Thingumajig Theatre
A long standing favourite of the Manchester Day Parade, Thinguamajig Theatre returns to Didsbury Arts Festival with a variety of performances – one common theme among them being elaborate costumes, bespoke props and a permanently wowed audience. Truly an event to let the imagination take flight – performances will be The Mystery of the Sock Puppet Snatcher, Punch & Judy, Look out Jo!,  and King Nit-Pick & the land of Rum Tum Tush!.

Project Thunderbucket
Inspired by the story of Hansel and Gretel, this multi-media performance takes in shadow puppetry, mixes in various fairy tales and  dwells upon the innocence of youth. Two children are put into an attic by an evil witch, and use found objects to invent a story where they can be with their real mother – it promises to be both moving and brilliantly different. Due to the slightly scary nature of some scenes, this isn’t suitable for young children.
