Spring is (sort of) here and the need for big coats is (nearly) fading. If that’s not enough of a reason to get excited, then the impressive list of new openings coming to Manchester throughout March should do the job nicely.
Slightly further afield this one, but chef Gary Usher’s latest project is now open. The beautiful Churton country pub has been lovingly restored over the last few months, and bookings will soon be open. If the offering at Kala, Sticky Walnut and Hispi are anything to go by, guests will be in pretty safe hands.

Suki Suki is set the latest name to join the Great Northern Warehouse’s offering, bringing Pan-Asian market-style eats to Deansgate.
Inspired by the bustling streets and eclectic flavours of Eastern Asia, Suki Suki’s menu ranges from small plates like Kamikaze Wings, Prawn Tempura, Soft Shell Crab and Spring Rolls, to hearty bowls of ramen, for which guests can pick from a variety of toppings like Charsui Pork, Veg & Tofu and Karaage Chicken, among others.
A dedicated Work Heroes section includes classics like Phad Tahi, Tum Yum Fried Rice and Yaki Udon, while traditional Golden, Red, Green or Kastu curries are also available.
The restaurant is expected to open for dining in late March, but is now already available to order for takeaway on Deliveroo.

Great North Pie Co have joined the ranks at Kampus. Acclaimed for their award-winning pies, the new spot offers a cosy and intimate space where guests can enjoy a modern take on traditional pie and mash.
Inside, booth-style seating makes room for 20 covers, while an outdoor seating area overlooking the Kampus garden and canal features an extra 30 covers.
The first seasonal menu features four butter-pastry pies, stuffed to the brim using only the highest quality ingredients from North West producers. The range is based on classic flavour combinations, including their 14-hour Braised Beef and Ale, Roast Chicken and Mushroom and the company’s hero Classic Lancashire Cheese and Onion.

The team at Embankment Kitchen have unveiled their new bar and grill menu.
Served up in their gorgeous dining room that blends extravagance with a welcoming laid-back feel, head chef Josh Singleton has taken something of a back-to-basics approach with the new menu, in which enhanced flavours take priority over fancy plating and purees.
Guests can tuck into perfectly cooked steaks, no-nonsense pies and beautifully crafted cocktails.

In its relatively short time, Bask has cemented itself as a massive favourite amongst Stockport’s impressive bar scene. They’ve now called on the more than capable Ate Days a Week, originally famous for their incredible pies, to help them bolster their food offering.
Taking over the venue’s kitchen Ate Days a Week will be switching their attention to big, delicious sandwiches. FYI, the Reuben looks stupidly good.

Specialising in quality sourdough and focaccia sandwiches, great coffee, deli salads and smoothies, Afti, which includes a couple of the team from nearby Lapwing Deli, is a long overdue and extremely welcome addition to Didsbury Village. The team will also be stocking local tipples and other treats, that visitors can enjoy by sitting in or taking to go.
The Blanchflower team have announced they’ll be opening their third location, taking over the former Creameries site in Chorlton. During the week the new addition will specialise in breakfast and lunch, with their freshly-baked bread and homemade pasta playing an integral role in the offering. On weekends, guests can enjoy an evening dinner service, one in which rotating weekly specials allow the chefs to showcase their creativity.

Following a string of ever-popular pop-ups and concepts around the city, Kong’s have opened up their first permanent restaurant in the recently-closed Cocktail Beer Ramen & Bun site. It’s something of a full circle moment, with Kong’s owner Tom Potts a former bar manager at CBRB, and even having once served the first Kong’s fried chicken sandwiches out of the CBRB kitchen whilst the restaurant was closed during lockdown.
