From the earliest emergence of computer-generated graphics in the 1970s, Rebecca Allen has been at the forefront of the medium, playing an integral role in shaping how we experience the world through technology.

From popular culture to augmented reality, Rebecca’s new exhibition, A Tangle of Mind & Matter brings together pioneering artworks from half a century of innovation with the overarching goal of inspiring the digital creatives of tomorrow.

Throughout her illustrious career, the artist has experimented with the space in which organic and digital meet. This new collection presents pioneering work from the 1980s through to the present day, exploring the various influences that have been present in her work, and includes the iconic artwork Rebecca created for Kraftwerk’s 1986 record, Electric Cafe.

As creative technologists reshape our understanding of art, politics and social life, Rebecca’s work offers a unique perspective and inspiration for the journey ahead. Works examine the movements of human and natural forms and how these are translated into digital, and questions the future of the body, and ultimately, the possibilities of human experience.

A Tangle of Mind & Matter runs at the School of Digital Arts’ Modal Gallery from Thu 2 Mar – Sun 30 Apr. For more information about the exhibition, visit the SODA website here.
