The Science and Industry Museum’s blockbuster world premiere exhibition Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You brings the hit CBBC series to life with a fascinating exploration of the human digestive system.
Open until Sun 9 Jun 2024, the exhibition promises an ‘unforgettable journey of super-sized science’, inviting visitors to join Dr. Chris, Dr. Xand and Dr. Ronx – who will pop up digitally throughout the exhibition – for a unique, immersive mission to discover where our food goes when we eat.
From the tongue to the large intestine and every stop in between, Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You features a range of incredible interactive activities designed to illustrate the science of how food is broken down; visitors will be shrunk, swallowed, squeezed through and expelled from Dr. Xand’s digestive system, learning about the ways in which the human body processes and absorbs nutrients and fends off bacteria as they step up to the poo-duction line to move waste out of the other end.
Alongside compelling objects on display from the Science Museum Group’s collection and cutting-edge technology – like Larry the Vomiting Robot, who helped scientists understand the distribution of norovirus particles – visitors can discover inspiring stories from young people living with a range of digestive conditions, and about the groundbreaking medicines used to treat them.
Dr. Chris and Dr. Xand, Operation Ouch! TV presenters, said: “Get ready to make history and take part in our most epic experiment yet! Find out how your food gets mashed, pulped, squeezed and absorbed, and soak up the sights, sounds and smells of your incredible digestive system!
“Our bodies are amazing! There’s nothing we wouldn’t do to demonstrate all the wonderful ways they work and this exhibition is proof! So make sure you come along and get digested at the Science and Industry Museum—it’ll be absolutely disgusting!”
