In a worldwide sense, Whalley Range isn’t really important. Most people only really know the name through it being name-checked by Morrissey in Miserable Lie, and it might stay that way forever. Not if West Wolf have their way, though – throwing their first ‘experiment’ in Saint Margarets Church, they’re trying to change people’s perceptions of the M16 postcode through bringing together some of the city’s best musicians and artists. Whether it will work or not, who knows – but they’ve done a bloody good job for their first line-up. Taking time out from future world beaters MONEY, lead singer Jamie Lee opens the night with his KRAKEN side-project, with Obsidian Pond, Sad Eyes and known SWAYS records collaborators Bernard + Edith supporting headliner Die Hexen. There will also be stalls featuring hand printed tees by Odawa and London lot Bottenberg & Birdsall, with local artist John Carroll showcasing some of his work too. It’s a cash only event, so stop by an ATM beforehand if you think you might be convinced to buy something pretty.
