Whether it’s late-night dive bars, boozy caravans or Salford Quays’ huge new food hall, there’s plenty of new stuff to get stuck into this September across Manchester.
Already a favourite of Heaton Chapel, La Capilla will open its second location in the historic Blackshaws building in Stockport, formerly home to Blackshaws Cafe. Guests will be able to enjoy a range of Mexican favourites in what is an extremely welcome addition to Stockport’s flourishing foodie scene. Opens Thu 14 Sep.
Alright, not strictly a new opening, but the fine folk at Birria Brothers Tacos are moving into Manchester institution the Koffee Pot full-time, and that’s plenty of cause for celebration. They’ve proved a monumental hit during their time with KP so far, so it’s great to see the hard work pay off for the team.
DIECAST, Manchester’s new ‘post-industrial warehouse bar, kitchen, performance space, creative neighbourhood, and dance floor’, has officially opened up its beer garden Rum Caravans.
Featuring four caravans from parks across the country, the vintage holiday homes were destined for retirement before being salvaged and restored by the team at DIECAST, offering visitors one of the more unique spots for drinking in the city.
The whole LENO food and drinks menu is available to order from the comfort of the caravans, which offer booth bookings for groups of 4-12, or can be booked out entirely for larger groups of 40.
Allpress has had a strong presence in the Manchester coffee scene for some time, stocking their beans in Ancoats staples Trove, Campanio, and Erst; as well as in Carhartt and Patagonia’s retail spots.
The new NOMA site, which is open now, is its first bricks-and-mortar store outside London. The space is now the Northern HQ for the brand, housing a café and offering a ‘holistic coffee experience’ and a seasonal menu incorporating locally sourced ingredients.
Set to open in Chorlton, Patois is described as a ‘cosy Caribbean restaurant by day’, serving up delights like plantain curry, jerk wings and curry goat, before transforming into a ‘dynamic bar by night’, complete with live music and crafted cocktails.
Mean Eyed Cat, the Deep South / Johnny Cash-inspired dive bar that is already a firm favourite over in Leeds and Liverpool, is opening in the former District site on Oldham Street. Expect late-night drinks, free pizza and the venue’s famous ‘Roll the Dice Game’ which for some lucky punters can mean you’re round is on the house.
The bar group is also launching Tiki Hideaway downstairs, promising a completely different experience described as a ‘Polynesian paradise.’

This is one we’ve been looking forward to for a while now, as part of the Central Bay development coming to MediaCity, Kargo Mkt is a waterfront food hall boasting 20 of Manchester’s most delicious food traders.
The new space consists of a food hall with a capacity of 400 seats, a 2,000 square-foot outdoor terrace, five waterside shipping container kitchens, and a shipping container bar, all looking out to the iconic and cultural landmarks of Old Trafford and the Imperial War Museum.
