‘Santa Must Die’ brings a riotously entertaining new Christmas tale to Patricroft Conservative Club

On Tue 19 and Wed 20 Dec, the raucous and resonant new theatre show Santa Must Die brings a hilariously unique Christmas tale about the thankless tedium of hostile, precarious festive work to Eccles’ Patricroft Conservative Club, in association with The Lowry.

Billed as ‘a gig theatre show for the gig economy’ at the most demanding time of year, Santa Must Die follows Nadia and Abed, two elves whose eponymous new band seems set to become the best in the North, and they’ve managed to organise a one-off concert at their local which could propel them to stardom.

Unfortunately, the show is scheduled for Christmas Eve, and Santa is a relentless, draconian boss, who saddles his elves with zero hours contracts, unpaid overtime, last-minute demands and endless queues of entitled, unsympathetic customers. As the cruelty reaches breaking point, the elves realise that mutiny is the only option.

Produced in collaboration with people who have experience of working on zero hours contracts throughout the season, Santa Must Die offers a refreshing and immensely entertaining take on the bleakness of working at Christmas, finding joy in unexpected places and the strength of unity in fighting against a system designed to keep you down.
