The Science and Industry Museum hosts a month-long bodies bonanza this May

Throughout May, the Science and Industry Museum hosts a month-long celebration of the human body.

As the museum’s world-premiere exhibition Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You nears its conclusion, the team prepares to bid farewell in style, with a four-week body bonanza and a blaze of ‘glorious grossness’.

Kicking things off will be a Brilliant Bodies Bank Holiday Weekender, running from Sat 4 May – Mon 6 May. Featuring an array of incredible talents who have trained their bodies to do extraordinary things, visitors can expect everything from beatboxing and Bollywood to handstands and hula-hoops.

Saturday sees The Circus House bring all the fun of the fair to the museum, with incredible demonstrations, spectacular performances and drop-in sessions inviting visitors to try their own hand at circus skills.

Sunday welcomes actor and director Faz Shah who’ll be demonstrating his ‘pop-tastic violin jams’ and leading open beatboxing sessions, while professional hula hoop performer, Natasha Moonshine, will also be wowing crowds with her impressive performances before hosting a series of hula workshops.

Bringing the bank holiday to a close, Monday will see modern Bollywood Dance Academy, Aimz Bolly Dance, performing and teaching some of their most spectacular routines.

May also brings two chances to meet stars of BBC Children’s TV during VIP trips. Dr Chris Van Tulleken will be at the museum on Sat 18 May and Dr Ronx Ikharia will visit on Sat 25 May. They make up two-thirds of the Operation Ouch! TV show presenting trio and have both provided unique inspiration for the museum’s hit exhibition.

During each appearance, visitors will have the opportunity to snap a selfie with the Doctors and see Chris and Ronx in action when they each take to the stage to answer some of the public’s most probing poo-related questions during live Q&As.

Tickets to grab a photo with the doctors in the exhibition space are available to book now. All tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £9 for children, seniors and concessions, with children aged three and under going free. Book your Dr Chris ticket here, and your Dr Ronx ticket here.

The Q&As will be free to attend, all that’s needed is a free general admission ticket.

The month’s activity will culminate in a medical-themed May half term from Sat 25 May – Sun 2 Jun. Little ones are invited to bring along their cuddly friends as the museum transforms into a teddy hospital, uncovering the weird and wonderful workings of the human body.

Budding doctors and nurses can visit the departments of Heads, Hearts, Bones and Bottoms and learn how to keep whole bodies healthy with playful and engaging activities for all ages.

Along with the above special events, an array of body-themed activities will be happening each weekend of the month. These include interactive activities where the museum’s expert Explainers ‘spill their guts’ for visitors as they explore the contents of a ‘gut bag’ to understand more about the digestive system.

Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You, which has proved to be the museum’s most popular major exhibition to date, welcoming more than 80,000 visitors, will be on display until Sun 9 Jun. You can find more information about the exhibition, and all of the above activities here.
