Performing in Manchester for one night only on Fri 24 May, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra honours the storied musical heritage of its homeland with a night of triumphant arrangements at The Bridgewater Hall, accompanied by world-renowned British violinist Chloë Hanslip.
Playing as part of The Bridgewater Hall’s 2024 International Concert Series, the multiple gold-selling ensemble opens the dynamic, exhilarating programme with Smetana’s classic Czech comic opera The Bartered Bride, before Hanslip leads the orchestra in a breathtaking rendition of Dvorak’s bombastic yet transcendently graceful Violin Concerto.
Swapping the dramatic vistas of Prague for the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires, trumpeter Jan Jan Hasenöhrl transports audiences to the sun-baked climes of Argentina’s capital with the sensuous flourishes and irresistible staccato of Piazzola’s jazz-inflected Libertango, before the orchestra rounds off an unforgettable evening with Dvorak’s titanic Seventh Symphony, a stirring paean to love, god and the Old World characterised by his achingly romantic Fatherland.
