Co-founded by Blur frontman/jack of all trades Damon Albarn and instigated after a life-changing trip to Mali, African Express is a collaborative stage show involving stars of the European and African musical landscapes. After a number of concerts (described by one national newspaper as ‘the most revolutionary force in popular music in two decades’), the carnival comes to Manchester with a host of musicians, DJs, vocalists, drum experts and dancers in tow. Expect an appearance from big D himself alongside Malian megastars Amadou and Mariam, AfroCubism’s Fatoumata Diawara (pictured), Kano, the Noisettes and more.
