The Good Food Guide has unveiled its prestigious Top 100 Local Restaurants in Britain list, with Greater Manchester well-represented in the latest rankings.

In total, eight of the region’s eateries made it into the final list, with the popular Levenshulme Italian joint Cibus named the overall winner in the North West category.

Upon awarding the accolade, the guide said of Cibus: “Giorgio Fontana and Marco Bracchitta have created the Italian trattoria of your dreams with exceptionally delicious regional dishes and a welcome that makes you feel like family.”

Michelin-recommended spots The Sparrows and Higher Ground both featured in the Top 100, as did acclaimed Ancoats gastropub, The Edinburgh Castle.

There were also places for Stockport’s Bombay to Mumbai, Prestwich’s The Pearl, Lily’s Vegetarian in Ashton-under-Lyne and Covino in Chester.

Every year the Good Food Guide receives thousands of nominations for restaurants to potentially be included in the list. Following public nominations, the guide’s inspectors visit restaurants across the UK to determine the final Top 100.

To be included, restaurants meet certain criteria, including being independently run and owned by the chef or a hands-on proprietor, offering regularly changing seasonal menus at an affordable price and demonstrating strong relationships with local suppliers.
