A brand-new LGBTQ+ film and TV Festival is set to take over several city centre venues later this month, coinciding with Manchester’s Pride festivities.

SCENE will run for an entire week, from Fri 16 Aug – Thu 22 Aug, with screenings and events taking place across HOME, The People’s History Museum, YES, New Century Hall and the Gay Village.

The festival kicks off with an exclusive opening night featuring a celebration panel and after-party to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the influential drama Queer as Folk.

Throughout the remainder of the week, there’ll be a whole host of star-studded events, including a special screening of BBC hit drama, Lost Boys & Fairies, followed by a Q&A with writer Daf James and star of the series Sion Daniel Young.

HOME celebrates icon John Waters with screenings of Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble. On Saturday evening ‘The Filthiest Carnival Alive’ will take over the venue with raucous drag queens, circus performers, DJs, and side stalls inspired by the films of The Pope of Trash.

People’s History Museum will be showing the powerful new documentary Striking With Pride: United at the Coalface, which explores the unlikely alliance forged between the gay men and lesbians of London, and the striking miners of South Wales, between the 1984 and 1985 London Prides.

All events at SCENE are £15 or under with many being £5 or free including a free outdoor screen on First Street.

More screenings are set to be announced ahead of the festival. You can see the full lineup so far and book your tickets using the button below.
