A genre-spanning supergroup that blends everything from Mediterranean folk song and chamber music to improvisation and acoustic jazz is set to perform at the RNCM this September.

The renowned collective is made up of award-winning singer, violinist and songwriter Alice Zawadzki, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Fred Thomas and jazz bassist and composer Misha Mullov-Abbado.

Through their music, the trio shares stories and soundscapes collected from their travels, drawing notable influences from all corners of the world.

After a decade of working together, the group is set to release their hugely-anticipated debut record, Za Górami, produced by ECM Records founder Manfred Eicher, on Fri 13 Sep — just two weeks before their show at RNCM.

Speaking about the release, the trio said: “Collected on our travels and taught to us by our friends, these are songs we have learnt and loved together.

“Though our musical and cultural backgrounds encompass Europe, Russia and South America, we were all three born in England. This happenstance was the product of love, war, exile, the arbitrariness of borders and the yearning for a new life – all themes which are themselves woven through the narratives you’ll hear within.

“Gathered from Argentina, France, Venezuela, Poland and the deep well of Sephardic culture, these folk tales speak to the moon, the mountains, the rain, the madness of humans and the prophecies of birds.”

Alice Zawadzki, Fred Thomas and Misha Mullov-Abbado will perform at the RNCM on Fri 27 Sep — the show forms part of the institution’s brand-new Inspirational Artists programme. Tickets are on sale now, grab yours using the button below.
