New sounds, old buildings: Full of Noises Festival in Barrow-in-Furness

Now in its third edition, Full of Noises is a festival of experimental music and sound art that responds to the architectural and acoustic properties of the post-industrial landscape around the Cumbrian town of Barrow-in-Furness. Artist Felix Kubin (pictured), who will be presenting his ‘Tape Delinquents’ piece (Fri, The Nines, 7.30pm), is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the programme, while artist-in-residence Lee Gamble will present his multi-channel work, sourced from an EMS Synthi (Fri, The Nines, 7.30pm). A series of talks, fringe events, participatory pieces and installations will also be presented alongside the live programme, including a new commission from the OWL Project’s Steve Symons (Fri/Sat, Barrow Park, 1pm – 5pm) and an immersive, site-reactive audience instrumentation piece taking the form of a bouncy castle with sub-bass frequency generators installed (Fri/Sat, Barrow Park, 1pm – 5pm). Regular trains run from Piccadilly to Barrow-in-Furness, and the festival venues are located within a short walk from the station.
