This January, Lowry hosts a fascinating and eye-opening evening of discussion with multi-award-winning author and historian, Sathnam Sanghera.

In his unique live show, How British Imperialism Changed the Globe, Sanghera delves into the lasting effects of the British Empire and how it continues to shape our lives to this very day.

The show will explore how 2.6 billion people around the world are inhabitants of former British colonies, how its influence is still felt upon the quarter of the planet it occupied, and the knock-on effects it had on the locations outside of these.

From the spread of Christianity by missionaries and nearly one in three people driving on the left side of the road, to the shaping and origins of international law, Sanghera dissects both the obvious, and less obvious impacts of colonial rule. He also examines how Britain’s own idea of its imperial history isn’t necessarily the same as the one the rest of the world experienced.

Sathnam Sanghera’s How British Imperialism Changed the Globe comes to Lowry on the afternoon of Sun 26 Jan. Tickets are on sale now, grab yours using the button below.
