A new immersive sound and multi-screen video installation from award-winning, internationally renowned Greek/British artist, Mikhail Karikis, explores the urgency of the climate emergency at HOME.

Free to enter, Songs for the Storm to Come hones in on collective and individual responses to the impending transformations of the UK based on forecasts from climate change scientists.

Local community collaboration continues to play a major role in Karikis’ creative approach. For this latest exhibition, he has worked closely with members of the Manchester-based SHE cooperative choir for women and non-binary people, and sound researchers from the School of Digital Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University.

In Songs for the Storm to Come, the choir members observe maps sourced from climate modelling data, showing Britain’s predicted transformed geography up to 2050 as a result of rising sea levels.

They reflect on the radical social and political changes required in response to these findings, and the eye-opening exhibition acts as a call to unite and form communities in the face of these changes.

Mikhail Karikis’ Songs for the Storm to Come is at HOME from now until Sun 2 Feb. Book your free visit using the button below.
