Manchester’s Royal Exchange will play host to Mike Leigh’s groundbreaking tragicomic masterpiece Abigail’s Party this spring.

Originally performed at Hampstead Theatre in 1977, the story has gone on to garner cult status across the decades, and a television adaption was named 11th in the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes by the British Film Institute.

Award-winning director Natalie Abrahami revisits the story, inviting audiences into an intimate party at the height of 1970s suburbia, social class and ambition.

Hosted by Beverly Moss, the hostess with the mostess, the latest tracks are on the record player and the drinks are flowing. As the night moves on, the gathering becomes thick with sexual tension, and Beverly’s super-exclusive gathering quickly unfolds into chaos.

In the Exchange’s distinctive space Natalie draws on the unique in-the-round stage to create an intimate gathering that audiences won’t want to miss.

Abigail’s Party comes to Royal Exchange for the first time ever from Fri 4 Apr – Sat 17 May. Tickets are on sale now, grab yours using the button below.
