A non-verbal, visually stunning theatre production told through the perspective of a Deaf man comes to Lowry this February.
Last Rites combines exciting physical storytelling with dynamic projection and an immersive soundtrack that can be both felt and heard.
The innovative and poignant show follows the story of Arjun, who is travelling from the UK to India to carry out his father’s funeral rites. However, what isn’t clear is exactly how he can perform an ancient Hindu practice that was never actually passed on to him.
In life, a complex relationship meant his father wouldn’t learn sign language, but now, in death, Arjun must find a way to say goodbye. To do so, he creates his own intimate, final ceremony that brings to life a rich tapestry of shared memories.
The show comes from the multi-award-winning Ad Infinitum, and sees internationally celebrated theatre makers Ramesh Meyyappan and George Mann working alongside one another for the very first time.
The entire production is a non-verbal piece of theatre with no spoken words and is accessible to Deaf and hearing audiences. The Performance includes a soundtrack with heavy use of bass so that it can be felt or heard by audience members
