Padel is one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports, and a game that has rapidly taken Manchester by storm.
Often described as a fast-paced yet accessible blend of tennis and squash, the game is predominantly played as doubles and owes much of its popularity to its social, inclusive atmosphere.

Over in Cheshire, Alderley Park features three state-of-the-art outdoor courts, complete with free racket hire, a spectator area and private coaching available seven days a week.
Pure Padel also operates a larger, indoor facility just on the edge of the city centre, conveniently located in Cheetham Hill, right by the Green Quarter.
With six covered courts, it’s a sound choice for those understandably fearful of the temperamental Manchester weather. There’s also a mezzanine viewing platform, cafe and bar serving alcohol and other refreshments.
If you like your padel played with a striking backdrop of towering skyscrapers, then Club de Padel is your spot. Located within the heart of Deansgate Square the all-outdoor venue includes four panoramic courts which can be booked on a pay-to-play basis, no need to mess about with memberships.
Didsbury’s historic Northern Tennis Club has joined the hype, recently installing two outdoor, covered courts that can be used by members and non-members all year round.
The Padel Club currently has four high-performance courts in Wilmslow, each lit by sports LED lighting. An additional four canopied courts, along with a brand-new social space, are set to be built this year.
Powerleague, which already operates padel centres in both Shoreditch and Birmingham, has recently opened six new undercover courts in Ardwick. The team’s latest venture also includes a clubhouse and bar serving refreshments and food.
Another facility, which is set to become one of the region’s largest, is set to open within Manchester’s Victoria North regeneration area this year following a successful planning permission application by Social Sports Society.
The 10-court venue is believed to be opening in stages, with an announcement last year touting the first batch of courts for opening in 2025.
Work has now been completed on what bosses say is the largest purpose-built padel facility in the UK at TraffordCity. In total, the facility now boasts a whopping 11 courts, of which there is a mix of indoor and outdoor, as well as a clubhouse and outdoor social spaces.
Conveniently located right by Decathlon in Stockport, Soul Padel features two open-air courts, four brand-new covered courts and a small clubhouse. There’s plenty of free parking by the site, too.
Right next to the recently-launched Treehouse Hotel, the Pollen Club offers two covered panoramic courts in the heart of Deansgate. Pot Kettle Black is also part of the operation, meaning you can enjoy post-padel coffee and bites from one of the city’s hospitality stalwarts.
Reddish’s Houldsworth Village, which is operated by the Life Leisure group, has one fully indoor padel court on its grounds, making it a particularly welcome choice when winter rolls in.
Situated right by Stockport Interchange, Life Leisure’s Grand Central location also now has a padel court. This one is completely outdoors, and visitors can claim free parking at the nearby NCP car park — just take your ticket to the Grand Central reception to get it validated.
