On Thu 20 and Fri 21 Mar, ThickSkin and Pentabus bring Bruntwood Prize-winner Tim Foley’s intimate, inspirational new story of brotherhood, love and belonging, to Lowry.

Two brothers, Mark and Tiny, wander along a beach in the North East while attempting to figure out what to do about their dying father – but the wild, mysterious sea has other ideas.

Their hometown crumbling and their patriarch growing weaker, they search for a solution while reckoning with family rifts, shared problems and political differences against a backdrop of encroaching mortality, as a strange figure made of driftwood stalks the beach at night.

Directed by Elle While (The Globe’s Hamlet, West End revival The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) and Neil Bettles (How Not To Drown, Disney’s Bedknobs & Broomsticks, Frantic Assembly’s The Unreturning), Driftwood offers a ‘sensitive, heartfelt and touching’ (One Show At A Time) meditation on family, grief and the unique intricacies of life itself through powerful storytelling and strikingly inventive stage design.
