On Wed 12 Mar, multitalented circus trio The Nordic Council take over Lowry with Häppy Hour, a beguiling theatre performance exploring life in Europe’s northernmost climes.

Blending offbeat humour, incisive self-awareness and astonishingly impressive contemporary circus skills, the hour-long show unpacks the unique moments and peculiar scenarios born from frigid winters, signature social unease and copious amounts of alcohol, as Merri Heikkilä (Finland), Jakob Jacobsson (Sweden) and Bjarni Àrnason (Iceland) come together in an innovative examination of their similarities and differences, and the long-standing tradition of drinking their sorrows away.

Equal parts surprising and intriguing, Häppy Hour offers a dose of playful self-reflection which combines juggling, physical comedy and acrobatics with live comedy to transform Nordic customs and stereotypes into achingly relatable situations for audiences of all backgrounds.
