A brand-new independent cinema is set to open in Sale’s Stanley Square early next year.

The Northern Light will showcase the latest Hollywood blockbusters alongside indie, foreign language and classic films, National Theatre productions and other global live events.

The venue will have three screens boasting the latest low-energy laser projection, surround sound and luxurious seating, including armchairs and sofas. A well-stocked bar will serve wines, local craft beer, homemade cake, fresh popcorn and other classic cinema snacks.

Family-owned business, Manero Cinemas Limited, who also operate the Rex in Wilmslow and the Savoy in Heaton Moor are behind the project

The group’s managing director, Tony Mundin, said: “We are thrilled to bring an affordable, luxury experience to Sale for everyone to enjoy a regular trip to the cinema. We will prioritise service and comfort to ensure everyone has a great time!”

The addition of the new cinema follows a wider regeneration of Stanley Square which has seen a number of independents set up shop in the revived town centre.

Michael Brown director of Altered Space the organisation behind the regenerated development said: “We are delighted to welcome The Northern Light Cinema to Stanley Square. The venue will be an excellent addition, further diversifying our offering and increasing footfall throughout the day and into the evening.  It will also complement our exciting line up of food and beverage businesses.”

The Northern Light will be located in the current WHSmith unit, which will be vacated in September 2024.
