Cornerhouse will screen A Field in England, the new film by Ben Wheatley, on its release date this Friday – together with a satellite Q&A with the director and cast. The ‘genre-bending romp’ is set during the English Civil War where a small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field and are soon captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler. O’Neil (played by Michael Smiley, pictured), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field. The film – following on from Wheatley’s previous successes, Sightseers and Kill List – is the first UK film released simultaneously in cinemas, on DVD and BluRay. The Q&A that follows this screening will feature Wheatley and cast members, broadcast live from the Ritzy in Brixton. Watch the trailer below.
